The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum Has Reopened

Did you know that March there will be a new aquarium making its debut to the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum? The “Living Collection Gallery” will open to show visitors what lives in shells that will make you want to take one or a few home with you. Some of the different animals that you will see are mollusks, octopus, cuttlefish and squid. Many of these animals you will find their shells on the beach while you are hunting for them. What a great way to learn more about where they come from then to enjoy the aquarium at the museum in March.

What’s at the Museum?

Many have asked what you will find at the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum and naturally you will find shells. But not only will you find shells, but you will also learn a lot of history about how the museum came about and about the different kinds of shells. There are many different ways that you can learn more such as newsletters, clubs and the library. You can take a school field trip and if you homeschool, it would make a great day to spend and learn a little about nature and shells.

When to Visit

There are daily programs that you can also take advantage of while you are on vacation such as Beach Walks, Shells Arts & Crafts and more. There are so many things that you can learn about while you are on vacation to Sanibel Island and visit the museum. The museum hours are from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. They are open on Holidays from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm and closed on Thanksgiving. Admission for Adults are $15, Youth (12-17) $9 , Children (5-11) $7, Under 5 are Free and Active Military are Free. They also do have group pricing as well. The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum is located at 3075 Sanibel Captiva Rd in Sanibel.
