What to Do on A Rainy Day on Sanibel Island

What to Do on A Rainy Day on Sanibel Island

When it comes to Florida even during the winter months, it’s sunny but there are a few days where it might rain. Even though it may be raining on Sanibel Island, there are plenty of things that you and your family can do. And staying in one of our 3-Bedroom Condos that will keep you close to where the fun begins. Let’s look at what you and your family can do while it rains when you vacation to Sanibel Island.

I See Seashells

The shelling you can do while you are on vacation to Sanibel Island is probably why you came to visit, but when it rains it will give you the perfect excuse to learn more about them. The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum is where you will see thousands of seashells from around the world. You will also be able to see an exhibit that is dedicated to the shells found on Sanibel Island and even from nearby town, Captiva. If someone from your family is a serious shell collector, then they will drool over the world-record sized seashells found on display. This is the only shell museum in the U.S. that offers daily beach walks and mollusk tank talks to help educate visitors about the creatures that make and inhabit those pretty seashells.

Let’s Learn History

What to Do on A Rainy Day on Sanibel Island

When it comes to Sanibel Island, the history is rich here. For those rainy days and if you would like to learn a little more about Sanibel Island, then head over to the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village. Here you and your family will be able to get the feel for Sanibel as it was 100 years ago with being able to visit a few historical buildings. One of the buildings that your family will be able to visit is the Sanibel School from 1896 and the 1926 Post Office. Admission is $10 per adult and children are free. There is a museum store that you will be able to purchase a few things about the history of Sanibel Island, so be sure to check that out. Even when on vacation, learning can be done on rainy days.

Explore the Beach

What to Do on A Rainy Day on Sanibel Island

If you keep a close eye on the weather, then you can take advantage of the beach if there are any breaks from the rain. Having a weather app on your phone can help you feel out how “rainy” the day will be and will allow you to still enjoy the beach some. Grab a beach bag or seashell bag with you where you can do the “Sanibel Stoop” as you collect some of the shells from the shores. Knowing that you and your family could be enjoying the outdoors even when it’s raining can be a new family tradition.

Play Board Games at your Resort

Another great thing that you can do on a rainy day here on Sanibel Island is playing a few rounds of board games in your room at Blind Pass Condominiums. Bring a few family favorites with you on your vacation. While you listen to the rain in the background, you can play a game or two for a little bit. If board games aren’t your thing bring whatever games you love to play at home and just enjoy your time together.

One of the best things about Sanibel Island isn’t just the beautiful sands, but it’s the fun you can have on and in the water. You can do some things with a bit of water fun; look for shells as you sit in the water and comb for shells. Some of the best shells can be found that way, and it’s cooling on a hot day. You can also do a little snorkeling, which will allow you and the family to see fish in the Gulf of Mexico and shells you may not see closer to the shore. Just be sure to be safe as you are doing it if you do it alone.

Beach Bag Essentials for your Sanibel Island Vacation

Beach Bag Essentials for your Sanibel Island Vacation

Do you have a vacation planned to Sanibel Island this year? If the answer is yes, then we understand that spending the week sitting on the beach soaking up the rays is just what you need.  Staying in one of our 3-Bedroom condo rentals will keep you close to the beach but having the right things in your beach bag will allow you to enjoy your vacation. We have compiled a list to help you get ready for your next vacation to Sanibel Island below.

Beach Bag Items

Beach Towels

When you are on vacation making sure you have packed everything before you leave home is essential. So be sure to pack a towel for everyone in your family whether you are going to sit in the sun or swim in the ocean. Bringing an extra towel with you is always a good idea especially if you have little ones with you. Having a beach towel with a different design can help each member in your group remember which one theirs is. Another great thing that you can do to each towel is sew pockets onto the end of the towel. This way you can keep your sunglasses and phone close by while you play.

Sunscreen

Beach Bag Essentials for your Sanibel Island Vacation

The sun on Sanibel Island can be very hot so sunscreen is a must for any beach bag. Use a sunscreen that is designed for your beach activities such as waterproof, sport, high SPF, etc. Dermatologists recommend that you use a sunscreen with at least 30 SPF while you are enjoying the sunshine. And don’t forget to Reapply throughout your day as we don’t want you to ruin your vacation the very first day your here with a sunburn. If you happen to get a little too much sun while you are on vacation, remember to pack a bottle of aloe as well.

Bag for Sand Toys

Anytime you go on vacation with kids, you have to bring a ton of sand toys with you. We understand bringing sand back with you into your vacation rental is not necessary and can be quite a hassle. So, if you pack a mesh bag such as a laundry bag or a bag specifically for beach toys can help eliminate the mess. Just throw the sandy toys into the bag, give it a good shake or two and leave the sand behind at the beach.

Sunglasses, Hats & SPF Shirts

Bringing sunglasses and hats can be very useful for anyone who visits the beach. The sun is much hotter than it is in the north, so we want to make sure that your eyes and face are protected. Having sunglasses will protect your eyes from the sun bright rays and will offer you some relief when trying to keep an eye on your little ones playing. Whether you have a floppy hot or a baseball cap, you will be happy that you brought these along with you. Don’t forget to pack one for everyone in the family. Another great thing to have for your kids are a SPF shirt that they can wear when you feel they are getting too much sunscreen. This can be helpful in keeping their skin from burning but also a great thing to help keep them cool during the day. Be sure to get one for each kid and you might find a few that are in adult sizes too.

Baby Powder

Beach Bag Essentials for your Sanibel Island Vacation

This is one item that you may not have thought about, but it is a must whenever you visit the beach. Whether you are staying in a vacation rental or you decided to drive your car to the beach access, sand will be all over you when you leave the beach for help. So, bringing baby powder in your beach bag will magically get the sand off of your body without irritation and leave a nice scent too. This is perfect for everyone in the family and not just the kids.

There are many other things that you can pack into your beach bag, but these are the must have items for your next vacation. If you haven’t made your vacation to Sanibel Island yet, check out our 3-Bedroom condo rentals today. We can’t wait for your family to come and vacation with us!
