Critical Mass Sanibel Night Bike Ride

There are people that go on vacation and want to do absolutely nothing but relax. Then there are others who want to try every new and different thing they can manage to squeeze into the time they have available. Either one is fine but if you’re in the former you probably don’t need to read any further.

If you’re a bicyclist and you’re planning on staying with us at Blind Pass Condominiums you might want to consider bringing your bike along. There’s an organized night ride that takes place the Second Saturday on Sanibel that is a ton of fun for cyclists of any type. If you’ve never done a night ride you’re in for a real treat.

This ride is held every second Saturday beginning 7 p.m. at 1700 Periwinkle Way at the shopping center and goes an hour with one break along the way. Riders meet at Jerry’s Plaza at 7 p.m. and roll out at 7:30 p.m. It’s suitable for any type of bike and is a social and casual ride along the beautiful paved paths of the island. The ride is at a relaxed pace (7-10 mph) for a total of 10.5 miles with a 10 minute break at Doc Fords at 6.5 miles. This is a fun and safe ride perfect for all ages and skill levels. Don’t forget to light it up. The island is dark with little light pollution.

Sponsored by the Southwest Florida Critical Mass (SWFLCM) the event is open to the public and is free. Bring your own bike or go rent a bike locally for the event. Decorate your bike with lights of any type for the full experience.

Parking is available at the Bailey Homestead Preserve Park located at 1300 Periwinkle Way. After crossing the Sanibel Causeway turn right onto Periwinkle Way, the park is about half a mile on your right just past Donax Street.
